David Malone
David Malone, a retired pastor of the Presbyterian Church (USA), joined the Listening Hearts Board of Trustees in 2004, but has been acquainted with, and a supporter of, the organization since its earliest days. David served as the Senior Pastor of Brown Memorial Presbyterian Church in Baltimore. Coincidentally, Suzanne Farnham's husband, The Rev. F. Lyman (Barney) Farnham was serving as the Rector at Memorial Episcopal Church across the street. The two congregations shared a close relationship including holding joint Sunday School classes.
From there, David went to Eliot Presbyterian Church in Lowell, Massachusetts where he served until his recent retirement. Eliot is known for its diverse congregation, conducting services in multiple languages. Before serving in Baltimore and Lowell, David pastored churches in Kansas City and Pittsburgh.
David was born in Greenwich, Connecticut, and raised in Rome, New York. A graduate of the University of Rochester, he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He went on to Colgate Rochester Divinity School. He is also a graduate of the Shalem Institute's spiritual direction program.
Married for forty years, David and Deborah, a retired geriatric-psychiatric nurse and Parish Nurse, now reside in Boston. They have two children and one grandson. In retirement, they have found spiritual joy as the oldest members of a new United Church of Christ /Disciples of Christ congregation organized to reach young and middle-aged urban adults. David watches television for significant events (i.e.: New England Patriots football games), reads widely, and is an avid walker.
